Rome, York, Kiev

16/05/2012 | By More

Back to the fold today and have been watching the Masters Tennis in Rome with much interest. It’s thrown up some good matches already and the ‘non-blue’ clay should give us some clues for the French Open. Murray’s match with Nalbandian yesterday had some great opportunites in it.

The Rome masters is a good place to get some practice in before the French open. Typically players will use it for the same reason as well, but be aware of retirements. Players wont risk an injury in Rome, they will want to save themselves for a shot at something bigger.

Over on horse racing, the York Dante meeting starts today and ranks as an OK in my book. I’ve pulled the odd really good result out of this meeting in the past, but it’s not on a par with some of the other bigger meetings. But it’s a useful focal point in the flat turf season and an vast improvement on some of the lower quality stuff around at other points in the week.

I’ve started to have a close look at Euro 2012 now as well. The England team was announced this morning and greeted with usual moans and groans. I must admit to being less useful on the Internationals as most of my focus is on domestic leagues where there are good form lines and plenty of games. International matches are much less my favour, but generally more useful for pre-off trading IMHO.

Anyhow, a busy week ahead.
