The most challenging race ever?

First day of Goodwood was quiet with nothing spectacular coming out of any of the races. I didn’t really get any stand out results from the card, just plodded along all day pulling in steady numbers. Overall a nice result on the day, but no thanks to Goodwood.

Today we have Frankel running. I think this is possibly the most uncompetitive group race I have ever seen in the UK? It’s difficult to do anything useful in a market like this from a trading perspective because you will end up going in behind the back of a massive order queue. You can see here that laying at 1.05 would put you behind £800k. I put an order in last night and it still doesn’t look close to filling. You often find this is an issue on Betfair as people stuff the order book full, in the hope of being able to get a favourable fill at some point.

My solution to this today is to not trade this market on Betfair but to move over to Betdaq. Big order queues as well, but smaller than Betfair and the fill rate will almost certainly be higher. Betdaq control a lot of the on-course bookmaker market so that may help today as well. Bet Angel is available for Betdaq as well, better still it’s free! It should be a really interesting market.

If you are going to trade it make sure you have enough money in your account and your exposure limit is adequate, this could be the one race that busts both!

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
