My highlight for November
Today brings a potentially good day for me, a highlight for November and a reminder of good times.
It’s the fighting fifth at Newcastle today. It’s often a small field and can be a bit tricky, but it usually contains some decent opportunities. Last year there was a big drift on Binocular before the start as the money came in for, correctly it turns out, Overturn. That led to a really good trading result. I will be happy with that again this year.
It’s also the Hennessy Gold Cup. I have fond memories of this race as this is the race I traded live at the IX Investor show for Betfair in 2006. Seeing a betting company at an financial investment show was a shock for many people and we had trouble getting people to come near the stand; so I just rolled up my sleeves and traded live for everybody. A slightly unorthodox set up, but it worked. As the profits flowed in it inevitably brought people to the stand to try and understand what market I could possibly be trading on Saturday. I recently found a photo of it that somebody took while archving some old material, it was a good day. Nothing like acting on the spur of the moment!
Anyhow, back to more recent times, it was a good day on both exchanges last year. So I am hopeful for a repeat this year. Nothing is guaranteed of course but after a bit of a barren spell it should be a good days racing.
