The depths of winter
So here we are at the start of February, in the depths of winter.
Australian Open tennis has just finished, Cheltenham isn’t too far away but for now the immediate outlook is a little weak for me.
It can be pretty tough, especially on the racing front, at this time of year. So it’s only with experience that you learn not to worry, it’s just part of the annual cycle. In the summer opportunities come thick and fast and you can easily skip one, because another will be along in a minute. In the depths of winter you can find yourself scrambling around for opportunities. This can often lead to mistakes when you push the boundaries of what is likely to be a sensible trade. Over time you learn to just deal with what’s in front of you and not to push it too hard.
Despite a few other sports around, February is traditionally my weakest month of the year and a low point in the entire year for me. So with half term just around the corner its a chance to take some time out and a key break point in the build up to spring. In spring things pick up and by summer I am all guns blazing. So it doesn’t really make sense to take much time off then. So around this time in the year is where I recharge my batteries and set forth on new projects. Come the summer I’ll have no time to do so!
So don’t get stressed at this time of year at the lack of opportunities, get chilled!
