Real problems for Man Utd?
My favourite champions league memory comes from a Man Utd vs Juventus match back in 1999, before the dawn of betting exchanges.
A friend phoned me and told me he had a spare ticket for the match and “Did I want to go?”. I immediately dropped everything and headed up to Manchester. I needed a hotel, so picked a reasonable one on a late booking and headed straight there. Remarkably I’d managed to pick the hotel where the Juventus were staying!
Anyway, back to tonight’s match which I am really looking forward to.
Man Utd are a hefty 3.20 to win at Old Trafford which is a problem for me as I have no direct comparison for Man Utd at those odds. For some context; if I broaden the search to look for teams other than the hosts it tends to throw up teams near the lower reaches of the league against teams slightly above half way up.
Both teams and ranked equally in the European rankings, so that actually implies that Man United should be much shorter if you believe these rankings. Real Madrid also have suffered away from home this season and that has killed off domestic hopes. So on balance Real Madrid look a little short.
Typically I would want Real Madrid to be at a bigger price then an opportunity would open up to back United if Real scored first. But with United being such a big price there is probably a better opportunity tonight with United. I guess United will want to shut up shop at the back and be desperate not to concede. A goal to either side will really throw the cat amongst the pigeons, so there will be plenty of opportunities when, if, that occurs. I’ll never forget Porto’s draw at Old Trafford a few years back, Mourinho probably hasn’t forgotten either!
A good trade may actually come from the Champions league winner market tonight. One team will be eliminated and 10-16% of the market will have to be redistributed in the market. Something to keep your eyes open for.
