US Open Golf at Merion – Nice set up
There are four hours left to the official start of the US Open but whether they start on time or finish a full session today very much depends on what happens with the appalling weather at Merion.
You often see the British Open throwing up some challenging conditions, but I’m not sure I have seen much worse than those at Merion so far this week. Merion received six inches of rain between last Friday and Monday and the forecast indicates that the weather is almost guaranteed to deliver even more rain on Thursday. Never an easy challenge, it’s going to be incredibly tough on the world’s best players which makes it a nice trading set up. Thursday’s forecast is for heavy rain, thunderstorms and possibly even hail. Friday’s outlook is only slightly better.
Essentially the terrible weather is really going to scramble things up a lot. Some of the leading players will struggle and I reckon one or two complete outsiders may pick up a few shots to be flattered at the front of the leaderboard. I’ll squeezing in my final positions now before the start of play. It should be an interesting four days.
