Let’s hope the Derby is this exciting

I’ve taken a diversion from just just posting an image of a result to putting some detail into events at the Oaks today. It was such a fascinating market from beginning to end.

The first thing that happened was ‘Legatissimo’ contracted quite heavily, but the pictures showed that it wasn’t enjoying it’s journey to post, so it looked a obvious lay. Slowly but surely the market reacted to it’s behaviour. This generally got worse till the horse cleared the main crowds when it began to settled.

This set up a really nice trade. Easy to spot an entry, easy to spot the exit. Look at graph: –

A highly liquid market with a a characteristic like that is bound to produce a decent result and that’s what happened. It work well on Betfair, a little too much in all honesty, as it got me distracted. That meant I didn’t take full advantage on Betdaq. However, I did have some automation running. This grabbed a useful total anyhow, so that turned a good result in a great one!

Onto the race itself and while I don’t do much in play, the race was a classic. There was a lot of incident and talking points. But the big moment came right at the end when 115/1 rank outsider ‘Qualify’ got up at the post to get it in a photo finish. It traded for small money at 990 but for lots around 140.

It was a most memorable Oaks, lets hope the Derby is the same tomorrow. Today was definitely one for the scrapbook.

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
