How bookmakers work

Bookies limiting customers has been around for some time. This was a situation I first experienced in the early 90’s, over 25 years ago. Not much has changed since then it seems. If anything, the bookies are much sharper now.

If you want a view on how they do this, read this blog post series that I posted up a little while ago. It gives you the story from very inside of a bookmakers.

My story

The story of how I was limited by a bookmaker was pretty much the end of an era for me. Up until that point, I thought I was onto something. I had managed to fox my local bookies. Following my foray into football pools, I figured out if I arranged a combination of bets in the right order I could get pretty decent odds and a fair chance of a win. I just had to ‘arb’ the early week football coupon.

I’ve posted a video of this story which you can view below: –

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
