Pre-season football

Interested to see the result from Man Utd’s first result under new management!

But….. not much to be read into pre season friendlies TBH. As a manager you are looking at new players, either acquired or coming up through the ranks and assessing things for the next season. Results are not paramount, but injuries are and when I looked into pre-season friendlies a few years ago there seemed to be little correlation to the start of the new season.

What I do look for though is new transfers, which does give a clue to performances next season and momentum. This can be either in terms of appointments or the general direction of a club. But even those are relative so any investment or big names brought in have to eclipse that of your rivals or else they will still not ensure an enhanced league position at the end of the season.

The market currently reads, Chelsea 2.98, Man City 3.55, Man Utd 5.90, Arsenal 7.80 & Liverpool 13. Forget the rest. I think that’s about right.

Should be an interesting season.
