Help me, help you

Over the last 15 years I’ve researched roughly a million markets, traded somewhere approaching 175,000 and recorded thousands of videos. I often record myself trading so I can look back and understand how I could do better, I’d recommend it!

The problem

It would be nice to publish a lot of those videos, unfortunately I don’t tend to have the time to do that. We keep a small team here and there are only 24 hours in a day! That’s the peril of doing this for a living, you become an expert, but you can’t really merchandise that and remain an expert. As the saying goes, as soon as you become a consultant, you fail to become a consultant. I have a cunning plan….

The plan

If you watch a video on You tube they run, hopefully, fairly unobtrusive adverts on the Bet Angel channel. These earn an absolute pittance, but they do earn a small amount. Currently the monthly revenue from these adverts will buy me a sandwich. However, I’m thinking of trying to lift them enough for me to pay someone to edit and upload videos for me. Perhaps a student or someone such can come into the office once a week and do that for me. A cost effective video editor! I’m unable to add to the 24 hours I have to reliable push forward on that front.

To push forward, what I really need is many more subscribers. If we get enough subscribers, I can elevate my account to a different status where the production and uploading videos could probably become self funding. From there we should be able to hit an upward cycle.

So the help I need from you is twofold: –

(1) Please subscribe to the channel by clicking this link and also encourage others to subscribe, this will significantly speed up my progress to the point where it’s self funding.

(2)  Watch a few adverts (or ignore them in a background now and again)

In return, as the subscriber base builds I can upload more videos and spend more time trying to reach a wider audience by broadening the videos to help get more traditional punters started on exchanges. Having a large number of subscribers should help reach a wider audience. I think social media is an ideal way to achieve this.

A broader objective

I can hear some of you saying, “Surely the software pays you to update and maintain the YouTube channel?”

For the short answer, see my video from San Francisco that I recorded recently for my line of thinking. Putting aside the economics of the software business, which isn’t as great as some people may make out. I’m now more interested in promoting betting exchanges and trading as the way forward for the industry as a whole. You will see this in the coming months. I’m in the fortunate position that I can choose to do this without concern for income, so I think I should. I’m at the point where I need to return to where I started this journey.

I want to educate and entertain people who have probably not experienced the joys of betting exchange and who have probably lost a significant amount of money to sportsbooks or traditional bookmakers and continue to do so. I see the industry split very clearly now between the parts that will promote the exchanges and their HUGE benefits, and those that are just out to fleece punters. It would be nice therefore, if the software became a minor component of the videos on the channel. I note already that instructional videos get less views than advice and trading videos. So I think we are part of the way there!

I’m also thinking that If I have to use the channel to just promote the software, it just becomes one giant commercial. It would be better for the main objective if the channel becomes much broader-based and encompasses everybody’s joint goal and seeing betting exchanges gain more traction with a wider audience. Again I’ll reflect this in future videos.

So that’s why I’m putting up this post. I think as a collective we stand much more chance of getting the message across and social media is a good way of doing that. I’m happy for the software to take a back seat to achieve that. I’m happy to be your evangelist for the exchange concept, it will help all of us. I already have some momentum with the channel, so I think building on that is a much more effective way of getting to that critical level. Any funding it gets, I can put back into pushing forward.

I’d be grateful if you would join me!

I left a good job in the consumer technology industry to go a trade on Betfair for a living way back in June 2000. I've been here ever since pushing very boundaries of what's possible on betting exchanges and loved every minute of it.
