Another Murray moment

Andy Murray conspired to throw up another great trading match today at the French Open. Unfortunately I had to miss it as I had an appointment with the bank and solicitors!

Murray went off at short odds and traded as high as 21’s before going on to win. 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. His opponent traded at very short odds before Murray’s comeback, much to the disbelief of people who kept backing his opponent at ever larger odds.

I did have a note from last year however that highlighted a Murry injury at roughly the same time. In case you have forgotten, Murray almost came a cropper against Berrer last year. View the whole story of the match here. That didn’t stop him from getting to the semi finals though. This injury looks a bit more substantial though and was priced into his tournament price. I guess only Murray and his coach will be able to tell us of the likely impact this year. His post match comments were quite revealing: –

“I was absolutely fine yesterday in practice, no problem, went to bed and I was fine, and I woke up this morning, I couldn’t put any weight on my left leg,” said Murray. “I practiced. It was okay. Not great, but it was okay. Then, before the match, I wasn’t feeling great. (I) talked about not playing. ” – “I was few points probably from stopping, around the middle of the second set.”

Meanwhile, his next opponent, Santiago Giraldo, pulled off a shock to beat Bernard Tomic in three sets.
