Champions league ratings

This is what the market thinks of this evening’s matches. Always remember, such is the variability of football that these represent average figures. It’s always going to be a numbers game: –

Villareal vs Arsenal & Man Utd vs Porto

Despite Wengers “we are the underdogs” cry. The market doesn’t think so pricing Arsenal for the win. The market ‘thinks’ there will be on average 2.24 goals in the Arsenal game and 2.60 in the Man Utd game. Man U …

Treacle trading

Treacle trading

090404-1615-retrieving-your-bets-copyI can’t remember a day when I was so nervous about using the exchanges.

On Saturday, Grand National day, my biggest concern was with the stability of Betfair itself. As the day wore on and we came to the traditional 3pm pinch point, things were slower but bearable for me. Speaking to some other traders and customers though, they didn’t feel comfortable with the delays and quit. I guess the strain on Betfair was so high that delays were inevitable.…

Those nightmare moments!

Those nightmare moments!

Every now and again you get these odd nightmare moments that you don’t wish on anybody.  Last weekend my main connection froze for a short period, but it wasn’t a problem as I always have a back up running. On this occasion though ,  the lock up occured right at the point just before the off and I was caught cold. By the time I had turned to my back up connection , only seconds later,  I’d dropped £120 or …

Fair wind

Fair wind

It’s the big day tomorrow and I was looking for a good day and got one! I couldn’t seem to put a foot wrong today, well almost. I had a cock up on an early race that cost £30. Other than that it seems a fair wind blew through the markets today. I only had two losses out of 31 races, the other loss being £2 at Wolverhampton when I was on the phone to my sister! Not the best result,

Just a short note to apoligise for the odd posts that appeared on the blog this morning. I have been trying to import some old stuff and it all got muddled up when I imported the wrong XML file. I have deleted the errant posts now and things should look normal again. I’ll try again at some other point!

Single click profit

As the one click stop video went down so well I thought I should also highlight the trade calculators we have had in Bet Angel for some time. You can fire up the trade calculators from any screen, as they are available at the top of Bet Angel. One is also built into the enchanced ladder interface.

The concept behind the trade calculator is to allow you to focus your attention on achieving the best exit from a market. As …

Aintree Antics

Aintree Antics

We just put the biggest jumps meeting behind us with the passing of Cheltenham, but Aintree still ranks up there when it comes to big race meetings. Most people know Aintree for the Grand National, I’m not taking bets on how many people ask me for a tip this week, but during the three day meeting there is plenty to get stuck into. It’s usually a good start to April before we enter the flat season proper. Here’s hoping for …

Swinging Southwell

You may think this refers to the antics of some people at the races on Tuesday but in fact it turns out that Tuesday was an excellent day for swing traders. Several races exhibited the classic set up for a decent swing trade and anybody sharp enough to spot it would have done well on Tuesday. It was great to see a new Bet Angel customer, Carl Harris, take advantage of the opportunity. Traditionally it’s gamblers that struggle to …

Going down, out or both?

Going down, out or both?

This is all about a soccer trade. For some time I have been watching the odds on Southampton being relegated from the Championship. Southampton have been in a precarious financial position for some time and I fully expected them to fall foul of the league rule that says you will be deducted 10 points if your club goes into administration (goes out of business).

Today Southampton went into administration which should have meant almost certain relegation as I predicted months …

Bet Angel on TV today!

After last weeks sponsorship of Wolverhampton, we are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring the entire afternoon racing card at Southwell today, including the £18,000 class 2 feature race of the day. The races will be live on ‘attheraces’.

It’s a pleasure to  make such a positive contribution, which we hope will bring more attention to the market.  This can only be a plus for everybody involved. The last race of the day will be the ‘Win Bet …

Minimise losses with one click

Maintaining discipline or exiting bad positions is a must if you want to get your trading expectancy positive. With this in mind we invented the one click stop loss. Setting the one click stop when you enter a trade means you don’t have to panic or procrastinate, whichever is your sin, when the trade goes wrong. In flash Bet Angel will exit your position before you have had time to ponder over whether it will charge off into the distance …

Flat packed

Today we saw the turf flat racing season kick off at Doncaster. Things will start to get busier from here. They turned out to be pretty busy today as well! With the meeting at Nad Al Sheba running at the same time it was a busy day, but one that turned out to be quite tradable as well. Had a rollercoaster day but just like the ride I enjoyed it in the end and just wanted to get on again! …

Progress being made in the US?

Interesting article I bumped into the other day. It seems there is a softer approach on the way to US gambling. If the US does relax its prohibitive grip on on-line gambling it could take the market to a whole new level.

Bet Angel on TV this evening

Bet Angel on TV this evening

As we have previously undertaken, today we will be sponsoring an entire card of racing again. A large number of our customers owe it to the horse racing industry that they exist at all. So it seems a relatively straight forward gesture to return some of that money back into the sport. Obviously we will get some publicity as well!

Anyhow, enjoy the trading at our expense and if you get any decent trades in, send us a few screenshots …

How odds really move

How odds really move

Over many years I’ve modelled a number of different events to see how odds should move in those particular sports. I actually started doing this some time ago in my attempt to win the football pools. Therefore, the first ever market I tried to model was a football match. Back then I was just hunting for the reasons that a match ended in a draw. Over the years I expanded my knowledge to include a whole range of things and …

Fluke?

Had an unexpected bonus at the weekend. Well I say unexpected, I do hunt for these sorts of opportunities as the effort costs little but the rewards are there if you look hard enough. Sports markets seem to be the sort of place where the harder you look, the luckier you get.

‘Little Hotpotch’ should go down in history as the one of, if not the worst SP for backers seen yet on Betfair. The SP volume was unusually high …

You could be forgiven for thinking this refers to the week or day, but no, this post is all about using TV pictures to trade. All things come, to he who waits

All things come, to he who waits

Psychology is an important aspect of your activity on the markets. I often feel this is what separates somebody who can’t be succesful with somebody who can and also it can lift you from good to great. Having the right mindset makes a big difference. Throughout my life if I see somebody doing well my instinct has always been, “Hmm, that’s interesting I wonder what they are doing?”. Unfortunately in life you meet many people who do the opposite and …

Liverpool at it again

Liverpool at it again

If there is one recurring theme of football betting is has to be never to bet against Liverpool. Endlessly famously for the impossible comeback in Turin, Liverpool seem to constantly pull the rabbit out of the hat at the least likely moment.

Mid week they cost me some money by defeating Real Madrid 4-0. It’s not that I didn’t expect them to win, I just didn’t figure it would be by four goals! Yesterday they humbled the seemingly impervious Man …

Interesting news coming out of the McLaren camp this week and finally an admission from McLaren on the state of their formula one season.

Doesn’t seem to be priced into the market at the moment but maybe people are waiting for more concrete evidence to emerge not just from McLaren but the other teams as well. Should be an interesting season.

Cause and effect refers to the philosophical concept of causality. Causality is about the relationship between one event (called cause) and another event (called effect) which is the direct consequence of the first.

I had a eureka moment at the weekend where I suddenty cottoned on to a fact I had been pursuing for a number of years. I love it when you get those moments, suddenly, all that was foggy becomes crystal clear. You wonder why you couldn’t see

It was too late to get the issue fully sorted at that moment in time so I just needed to

Have a great Cheltenham

Typically with a large racing meeting like Cheltenham I look to get off to a steady start. I am happy to reach break even or a small loss just to get used to things. Bet Angel has quite a range of features, In total there are seven main areas. While it may seem daunting to use all of them , or you may feel more comfortable sticking to just one screen, you are quite likely to be missing out on some perfectly good strategies if you ignore any of these key areas.

It’s important to understand why this is. When we designed Bet Angel it was because of need, it wasn’t a marketing exercise …
