The flat is back
While playing Football World Cup in the desert may not be a great ideal, running the world’s richest race is!
This weekend we have two key events in the racing calendar , the highest profile being the Dubai World Cup in Meydan. Here is another sports event I will make the effort to attend some day. For the moment, I’m still sat behind my monitor taking an active interest in it from the other side. The racecourse was designed to …
Betfair miss the chance for some great customer service
First off, on the plus side, the start of the flat turf season was a success, so that was a big positive.
On the downside; how would you feel if minutes into a game of football the match stopped and the team you just backed, decided to field a reserve team instead? Would you like your bet to stand? Thought not!
Yesterday at Meydan the Dubai Gold Cup had to be stopped mid race due to a fatal injury to …
Flat pack
Looking forward to the return of the flat turf season today with the Lincoln at Doncaster. 22 horses line up to battle out this competitive handicap.
We should rejoice at the return of the flat turf season. It’s return will herald less clashing and generally bigger fields. In the winter it can be a right pain when you have many cards and all the races and are falling all over each other. This will mean you should see better opportunities …
Dubai far from a failure for Woods
OK, Woods may have flunked the last round in Dubai but it seems other ventures in Dubai worked out quite nicely, even though they didn’t!

Dubai desert classic
Received a useful tip earlier in the week about Thomas Aiken. Six of the last seven tournaments he has finished in the top 20 and was available at 120’s. After the first round he is five under par, in second place and in to 25’s. I’ve also backed Sterne at 440 to 50’s, Martin 450 to 75 and a fair few others.
No trading out for me until they finish the second round. All I need now is a …
Made in Dubai
Well I did say it was probably worth doing! I managed to get slightly more than the £50 I managed last year, but was helped by a number of favourable mitigating factors and a bit of luck. Sometimes you need that to pull out a good result. The race itself must be one of few where the prize money dwarfs the turnover on Betfair. It was a great race as well, probably the most expensive photo finish in racing history. …
Richest race in the world
Today sees the worlds richest horse race take place at Meydan, the Dubai world cup.
I’ve dabbled on the Meydan markets this year and they have been just fine. A very useful addition to the P&L during the tough winter months. Therefore I’d recommend a dabble in these markets if the volume is holding up and there is no clashing with other races. The world cup stands out on it’s own as a race later in the day so that …
